Mike Rodel
Founder & Chief Executive Officer | Head of Development

Mike founded EMRE in 2013 following more than three decades of executive leadership within South Africa's listed retail property sector. He is responsible for the company's strategy, investment structuring, development origination and overall execution of EMRE's development pipeline.
Widely recognised as one of South Africa's most experienced retail property developers, Mike has led the development, redevelopment and asset management of more than R30 billion of retail property during his career. Previous executive positions include CEO of Hyprop Investments, Project Executive for Old Mutual Properties responsible for the development of Gateway Theatre of Shopping, and Asset Management Executive of Liberty Properties responsible for Sandton City, Nelson Mandela Square and Eastgate Shopping Centre.
At EMRE he leads project origination, institutional investment partnerships, development management and transaction structuring, while overseeing the delivery of the company's convenience shopping centre pipeline across Southern Africa.



Jackie Ngakane
Director: Business Development and Stakeholder Relations

Jackie leads EMRE’s business development, stakeholder engagement and land entitlement activities. He manages the company’s relationships with government development agencies, municipalities, traditional authorities, community partners and landowners, helping to originate and advance new development opportunities.
His responsibilities include coordinating land leases, development rights and property participation arrangements, together with the stakeholder processes supporting rezoning, statutory approvals, bulk services and land transfer. Jackie brings more than 30 years of experience in business development, investment banking, corporate finance, programme management and development management.






Simon Latilla-Campbell
Leasing Director

Simon leads EMRE's leasing division and is responsible for tenant strategy, anchor tenant negotiations, retailer relationships and leasing execution across the company's development portfolio.
With more than 30 years' experience in retail leasing and shopping centre development, he has successfully concluded transactions with South Africa's leading national retailers across convenience, neighbourhood and super-regional shopping centres. His responsibilities include tenant mix optimisation, lease negotiations, retailer engagement and delivering the pre-leasing milestones required to secure development funding.
Simon works closely with EMRE's development and project teams to maximise long-term asset value through carefully curated tenant mixes and sustainable leasing strategies.



Siya Jele
Director

Siya is a shareholder and director of EMRE and provides strategic input on development opportunities, affordable housing and investment partnerships. He currently serves as Regional Manager: KwaZulu-Natal at TUHF, one of South Africa's leading commercial property financiers focused on affordable housing and urban regeneration.
His previous experience includes development management, banking and property finance, providing EMRE with valuable insight into mixed-use development, residential investment and urban regeneration initiatives. Siya continues to support the company's long-term strategic growth while pursuing his executive responsibilities at TUHF.






Simthembile Mapu
Director

Simthembile is a shareholder and director of EMRE and contributes strategic insight into government partnerships, industrial development and regional economic growth initiatives. He currently serves as Executive Manager: Business Development & Support at the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ), where he is responsible for investment promotion, stakeholder engagement and business development within one of South Africa's leading Special Economic Zones.
His extensive experience in economic development, investment facilitation and public-sector partnerships continues to strengthen EMRE's relationships with development agencies and government stakeholders.

Alex Rodel
Retail Research &
Development Advisor

Alex provides specialist retail research and development advisory support to EMRE, assisting with market analysis, retail demand assessments and development feasibility across the company's project pipeline.
He has extensive experience in retail property research and geographic information systems (GIS), with particular expertise in shopping centre market analysis, catchment modelling and supermarket and retailer location strategy. Through his professional role with one of South Africa's leading retail property research consultancies, Alex has contributed to the evaluation of numerous retail development opportunities across the country.
His work supports EMRE's disciplined, research-driven approach to site selection, tenant planning and development feasibility.
